Pachmarhi Travel Guide

Pachmarhi is beautiful hill station in Madhya Pradesh state of India situated on a large plateau Mahadeo hills of Satpura range. It is well-known as Satpura ki Rani situated at a height of 1100 m in a valley of the Satpura Range in Hoshangabad district. Dhupgarh, the highest point of 1,350 m in Madhya Pradesh where Satpura Range is located.
It is said that the name Pachmarhi is believed to be derived from the Hindi words Panch means five and Marhi means Caves. As per the old stories, these caves were built by five Pandavas brothers of Mahabharatha epic during their thirteen years of exile. The caves are located on a hilltop and provide an excellent sightseeing point. Pachmarhi is discovered by British Army Captain – James Forsyth in 1857 and wrote book on Pachmarhi called “The Highlands of Central India”. Dense forests and its in-accessibility for normal person had made it a safe place for hideout for freedom fighters. Its scenic beauty and climate had made it popular among britishers during pre-independence era in summer season.
