Kanha National Park in Kanha, Madhya Pradesh

Kanha National Park or Kanha Tiger Reserve is one of the largest National Parks of Madhya Pradesh of India. It is located 175 km away from Jabalpur city of Madhya Pradesh. Kanha is divided into two sanctuaries, Hallon and Banjar of 250 and 300 square km. Now it is spread over the vast area of 940 square km over the two districts Mandla and Balaghat.Together with a surrounding buffer zone of 1,067 square km and the neighboring 110 square km of Phen Sanctuary. Kanha National Park was established on 1 June 1955 and in 1973 it was declared as Kanha Tiger Reserve. It is the largest National Parks of India and prominent tourist attractions of India.

Kanha National Park houses more than 1000 flora species of flowering plant and lowland forest is a mixture of sal and other mixed forest trees. Highland forests are of dry tropical type mainly consists of bamboo trees. The Park in terms of fauna has a significant population of Bengal Tigers, Indian leopards, the sloth bear, barasingha, wild dog, wild cat and many more species. Barasingha is pride of the place as it is the only subspecies of swamp deer in India, except the Great Swamp Deer of Sundarbans.

Kanha National Park has three gates for entrance into the park, the first gate is Kisli gate best accessed from Jabalpur, second gate is at Mukki and the third one most recently opened gate is at Serai. To Reach Kanha Tiger Reserve nearest Airport is Jabapur Airport and nearest Railway Station is also Jabalpur Airport or one can travel through road transport to rich the destination.
