Maheshwar is a city in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh state of India. It was the capital of the Malwa during the Maratha Holkar reign till 6 January 1818, when the capital was shifted to Indore by Malhar Rao Holkar III. Maheshwar is located 13 km east of National Highway 3 and 91 km from Indore, the commercial capital of the state. The City lies on the north bank of the Narmada River.
Maheshwar is believed to be built on the site of the ancient city of Somvanshya Shastrarjun Kshatriya, and was the capital of King Kartavirya Arjuna, who is mentioned in the Sanskrit epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. The word Maheshwar in Hindi means Great God, an epithet of Lord Shiva.

Maheshwar is culturally full-filed town with many festivals and rituals. It is famous for handloom weaving since the 5th century, and home to one of India's finest hand loom fabric traditions. Maheshwar is well-known for colourful Maheshwari sarees. Maheshwar houses many historical sites and tourist destinations for which Maheshwar is popular.

Maheshwar Fort - This is 16th century fort and famous for its elegant architecture & spectacular view from Narmada River, this place was constructed by a greatest queen Ahalya Bai Holkar and was her residential place, a queen India ever had seen so also called as Queen’s Fort.
Ahalyabai Ghat - To fulfill the un-impressive look of Ahilyabai Holkar's cenotaph, her daughter-in-law Krishnabai gave special interest in building these impressive royal ghats.
