Omkareshwar is located on an island called Shivapuri in the Narmada River, the shape of island is similar to the Hindu symbol Om and hence named after it Omkareshwar. It is situated in the Khandwa district of Madhy Pradesh state in India. Omkareshwar is around 20 km from Mortakka, 133 km form Ujjain and 70 km from Indore in Madhya Pradesh. One can access via Ujjain and Indore Airport, or nearest railway station is Omkareshwar and Indore which is connected to major cities or by taking bus from nearest stations.

Omkareshwar is adorned with lavish hills, between which the river Narmada forms a scenic pool. Above this pool runs a cantilever type bridge which adds more beauty of this island.
